For an employee working for almost 9 hours a day (including the 1 hour break), every weekdays seems to be ordinary and routinary. You will wake up early in the morning just to make your daily routines (taking a bath, ironed your clothes or uniform, eating your breakfast as in "fast" because you have to do things in a hurry because you have to get at the office or else you'll be late and etc.) and then prepare to go work. Everyday you have to battle it up with 3 time consuming events: 1st, waiting for a jeep or fx that will bring you to the place of your work, sometimes is will make you irritated specialy in days that you have to wait for more than an hour just to be able to ride on a jeep or fx. 2nd, is the heavy traffic that the vehicle (by where you ride) may face. I already experience sitting on a jeepney for almost two hours waiting for the jeep to move a little, its so irritating but since you are only a passenger you can't complain to the driver because even them didn't want it neither. Lastly, you have to be patience specialy in times when theres only a minute left or else you'll be late and then the elevators is still busy taking people up to a 33rd floor building (in my previous work, our office in located at the 33rd floor so i usually experience this).
Going to the place of your work is so routinary, so as to the work itself that you will do. For an employee, you may get bored for two reasons, its either you are doing the same stuff everyday, weekly, monthly and worst of all is on the rest of the year or you may get bored because you are doing nothing, it seems that you're not doing anything, you are not learning, you are not having a valuable and meaningful working time. Sometimes, you will feel more exhausted when you are doing nothing because you're not productive and worst of all you are useless.
Things becomes routinary and boring as an employee specially if your boss is like a "monster" (im not talking about the physical appearance although some would be like one but im speaking about attitude and the way bosses treat and communicate with their subordinates). It adds up with the pressure that you might have in your work if your boss is not a good motivator but rather be a "good destroyer", and a "discourager" rather than a encourager. After graduating in college, surely you will be eager to apply for work 'coz you already want to experience how to apply what you'd study and also you'd want to earn money as well (although there are some who will seek for a vacation first before being interested to have a job or some will just apply irregardless if it is related to the course they graduated just to earn money). When you are already working, you will realized that the work that you had dreamed of since you started studying in college is very different from the reality. You may get frustrated, definitely be bored and all will become ordinary and routinary. If things become routinary and ordinary, what should we do?
Everything may get routinary, thats a reality and if you will try to unwind by doing the things the worlds offer like drinking liquors (gin, beer etc), going to the night parties, watching movies and etc, it might make thing different slightly but temporary. The key in escaping and making things not routinary and ordinary lies on the way we think, our motivations in life and by whom we are working for.
The truths are this: 1st thing we must put up in our minds, the work that we have right now is a blessing that comes from God. Whether you are a quality applicant who pass all the exams and interview, you had been accepted in a company not because of your own stuff but it is because God had given it to you. So, if we will have a mindset that our work or job is a blessing, everything will not be the same because we will always be thankful for we had been blessed by God through our work. 1 Corinthian 10:31 says, "..whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (NIV), the 2nd truth is that "Our work is our ministry to God". Whatever we do, it gives something to Him who bless us with our work. So, if we are working and sees things as routinary that makes us become lazy, we are sinning for we are not giving glory to the Lord. So, if we look at our job as our ministry, we will do and give our best to give God all the glory and honor. And lastly, the truth is that we must work not just for your boss or the company but "we are working for the LORD". He is the one who give us work or job, so our real boss is no other than God. So whether your boss is good or not so good, lets serve with a sincere heart as if we're serving HIM. As Colossians 3:22 said, Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the glory of God. Every authority comes from God, so lets give are boss all the respect and be submissive.
Let Christ gives meaning in your life. Things will always be ordinary if you are living just by yourself and only for yourself. If Christ is in your life, extra-ordinary and amzing things will happen for YAHWEH is the God of all possibilities and He can do everything to make your life complete and with satisfaction.
To YAHWEH be the glory.
